Juuni kokki est l'histoire de Yoko Nakajima qui transportée dans un monde médiéval fantastique devra affronter ses peurs et ses incertitudes pour pouvoir accomplir son destin. Cette histoire a comme fond des intrigues politiques entre les différents dirigeants des douzes royaumes...et l'histoire de Yoko Nakajima n'est qu'un début...

Juuni kokki souvent apparenté à Fushigi Yugi n'y ressemble que par le schéma initial, c'est-à-dire partir dans un autre monde. A ce moment là, on pourrait aussi l'apparenter à Escaflowne... Toutefois, la différence majeure à mon sens vient du fait que l'histoire ne tourne pas autour de deux protagonistes qui s'aiment mais autour d'une personne et de son évolution par tout ce qui l'entoure. Il s'agit plus d'héroic-fantasy qui se targue de réalisme et de cynisme. Au bout d'un moment, le personnage principal ne fera plus confiance à personne tellement dans ce monde les intérêts personnels priment d'abord. On peut considérer aussi ce monde comme une relecture incisive du notre...Une comparaison avec Berserk m'a semblé plus juste...

Les Douze Royaumes est un anime passionnant pour qui aime découvrir un nouveau monde bien construit, monde qui aura aussi sa part de complots et de surprises. On suit l'histoire de Yoko Nakajima, projetée dans ce monde à tendance asiatique médiéval où démons, hommes, animaux sacrés se côtoient. Yoko devra comprendre comment fonctionne ce monde pour en appréhender les enjeux, comprendre pourquoi elle y est et pourquoi les évènements se déchaînent autour d'elle. Mais Yoko, simple lycéenne agira en tant que telle à ses débuts. Perdue, chassée, trahie, elle devra puiser en elle-même sa propre raison de vivre. C'est l'autre aspect fascinant de cet anime, découvrir l'évolution de Yoko. Simple lycéenne normale avec ses contradictions, elle devra évoluer mentalement et prendre connaissance de ses limites. Doutant tout en combattant pour survivre, on a une héroïne qui change un peu du gentil héros un peu niais et tout content d'arriver dans un nouvel univers (comme Ginta dans Mär par exemple). Ici, Yoko n'est pas heureuse d'être là où elle est. En combo avec univers cohérent qui a ses propres règles, on a là un anime de premier plan, sans nulle doute.
